Application for new salary level

Initial salary 

The initial salary for a doctoral student is determined by the faculty (Faculty of Science or LTH).

As for all employees at Lund University, the salary for doctoral students is paid on the 25th of each month.

Salary level for doctoral students admitted before 2023-08-01 

The doctoral student's salary increases in stages. The salary increases when 60, 120, and 180 credits have been achieved. The size of the salary level is determined by the respective faculty. The doctoral student must apply for these pay progressions.

Upon obtaining a doctoral degree, the salary is further increased. This salary is only paid for a brief period, as the employment typically ends shortly after the doctoral degree is obtained.

It is the doctoral student's responsibility, in collaboration with their supervisor, to ensure that the application for a salary increase is submitted once the student has accumulated enough credits. Calculation of salary level date 

To calculate the timing of salary level date, the total time spent on the doctoral studies is considered, from the admission date to the salary level date. Institutional service does not count towards this time. It is also required that sufficient results have been achieved.

Please note that the salary increase occurs the month following the attainment of credits; for example, if the credits are achieved on March 3rd, the salary increase and the new salary take effect from April 1st. The salary increase can only be paid retroactively for a maximum of 6 months.

Salary level for doctoral students admitted after 2023-08-01 

New rules apply to doctoral students admitted after August 1, 2023. Salary level occurs after 120 and 180 higher education credits.
