High pressure and temperature transform abundant and non-toxic substances like carbon dioxide and water into powerful solvents. Such solvents are able to replace and even improve the performance of conventional solvents in extraction, chromatography, crystallization, cleaning, drug formulation, polymer processing and chemical synthesis.
The Rodriguez-Meizoso group develops spectroscopic methods based on Raman spectroscopy for in-situ monitoring in such challenging environments. This basic research is applied to developing new/alternative chemical processes for extraction, purification, fractionation and drying, which are relevant for food, pharmaceutical, medical and cosmetic applications.
Irene Rodríguez Meizoso has been elected member of the Analytical Chemistry division for the biennium 2018-2020.
