Clean water through Bio- and Nano-technology 2012

7-9 May, 2012, Lund, Sweden

Environmental pollution seems to be a never-ending story. When a problem has been identified and technology to cope with it has been developed, then new problems appear. The development in analytical chemistry has opened the eyes concerning several groups of environmental pollutants. Clear examples of this are the pollutants that today attract a lot of interest, the compounds that are present at very low concentrations. Examples are brominated flame retardants, endocrine disruptors and pharmaceuticals.

New technology is needed to address these new challenges, and at the same time we need to see that what now is developed will be compatible with already existing technology.

This 2.5-day workshop is covering a broad field of novel adsorbents to be applied in the work towards a cleaner environment, good examples from real life when complex wastewaters are successfully treated. Besides presentations from leaders in the development of different aspects of environmental technology, ample time will be given to networking and informal discussions.

During the conference, well-presented abstracts demonstrating innovative or exciting research will be invited for publication in the new journal “Nanomaterials and the Environment ” (NATE), which will be launched and introduced at the conference. NATE is an open access journal, with no publication charges until 2014; the editor is Dr. Raymond Whitby from the University of Brighton.
